Position Summary
University Communications (UC) is offering an exciting opportunity for a top-notch Web Writer and Editor to serve on its editorial team.

Your primary role will be to:
Create and steward content for the university’s top-level web-the front door to the university for our many publics, including prospective and current students, faculty, and others-working as part of a creative team of designers, editors and digital experts.
Work on other communications/marketing materials for UC and/or units within the university, as a writer, copyeditor, fact-checker and/or proofreader.

The ideal candidate will be a creative thinker and inventive problem-solver; passionate about the written word and its power to persuade; a true believer in the goals and mission of public education-particularly as they pertain to diversity, equity and inclusion; able to calibrate their tone and language to engage various audiences; and an absolute stickler for detail.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree

Two years of relevant professional experience
Proven web writing and editing skills, including an ability to adapt tone and style for different target audiences
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
High digital literacy

In addition, the web writer/editor must:
Possess excellent attention to detail
Have strong time-management and organizational skills, demonstrated in an ability to successfully handle multiple assignments simultaneously, complete assignments on time and complete assignments within specifications
Be self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
Be able to work well on a team and forge strong, collaborative relationships with clients, colleagues and freelance contributors
Be committed to values of equity, diversity and inclusion
Be proactive in assessing needs and offering solutions beyond given assignments
Be able to demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office and content management systems

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism or other related field

Higher education experience
Familiarity with Adobe InDesign
Familiarity with AP style
Familiarity with SEO
Three or more years of relevant professional experience
