Job Summary:

The Nurse Practitioner provide urgent care and primary care services to students evaluated at the Simmons Health Center during the academic year (over 4,000 visits annually). The Nurse Practitioner provides after-hours on-call consultation services when needed. This role participates in quality improvement, NP teaching/training, and community outreach, as well as supports campus-wide efforts in management of COVID-19 risk mitigation on campus.


Patient Care and Administrative Duties
  • Provide primary care and urgent care to students presenting to Health Center on the residential campus;
  • Offer patient education when appropriate as part of each student encounter to encourage strong life-long health practices;
  • Provide physical exams for academic and athletic clearance;
  • Assist with immunizations and PPD (TB) testing when necessary;
  • Consult and coordinate care with outside providers, including the Simmons Counseling Center staff and subspecialists at local medical centers to manage mutual patients;
  • Serve as the administrative point of contact for staff and students when Administrative Director or Medical Director are not present;
  • Represent the Health Center on various campus committees;
  • Coordinate data collection and annual reporting requirements with the support of the Senior Director of Operations, Assessment and Strategic Initiatives.

On-Call Coverage
  • In rotation with other staff NPs, provide after hours on-call (telephone) consultation during hours Health Center is closed;
  • Coordinate transport of students to appropriate medical setting with Public Safety.

Quality Improvement, Teaching and Training, Community Outreach
  • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of the standards of practice at the Health Center;
  • Participate in identifying and implementing quality improvement projects at the Health Center;
  • Provide clinical precepting for nurse practitioner students when possible;
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training;
  • Identify and participate in continuing education opportunities that are relevant to practicing in the college setting such as those offered by the New England College Health Association (NECHA) and the American College Health Association;
  • Serve as member of college-wide and Health Center committees as needed if time permits;
  • Active participant in the University's Wellness Initiative and assist with relevant campus programming when requested.

  • Current MA Nurse Practitioner License;
  • Experience in Urgent/Outpatient Care preferred;
  • This is 40 hr/week, 10-month position during the academic year.
