  • Senior Research Support Specialist, Neurology

    A Senior Research Support Specialist position in ischemic neuroprotection is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Marc Halterman (Professor, Department of Neurology). Studies involve the development of neuroprotective therapies to limit reperfusion injury, hemorrhagic transformation, and systemic inflammation induced following ischemic stroke. Themes emphasized in this project include mechanisms of ischemia-reperfusion injury, vascular biology, and clinically tractable interventions to limit systemic innate immune activation. In this position, you will:


    Rodent Stroke Modeling


    • Perform survival surgeries modeling stroke and postoperative care of juvenile and adult mice.

    • Perform measures of lung function and animal behavior in post-stroke, anesthetized mice.

    • Analyze and evaluate experimental data and interpret results within the scope of the study; assess the importance of findings of the general research program.


     

    Tissue analyses


    • Process tissue for histology, immunohistochemical protocols, and various analyses, including Western blotting, biochemical assays and other biomarker analyses, and gene expression analysis.


     

    Project Management


    • Develop and implement operating procedures for the laboratory and independently operates complex equipment.

    • Develop and modify test methods and selects procedures for data collection and handling.

    • Contribute to the writing of research proposals and manuscripts and prepares regulatory documentation required for research compliance.
