    We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to perform multiple duties supporting a laboratory studying basic and translational mechanisms of stroke at the molecular, cellular, and animal models. Primary duties will include basic cell culture and transgenic colony maintenance, including breeding, weaning, and collecting tissue for genotyping. In this position, you will be responsible for:

    Transgenic colony management


    • Primary responsibility for breeding, weaning, tail clipping, PCR-based genetic screening, transportation, and euthanizing mice. Work includes maintaining the colony database, tracking mattings and lineages, and maintaining IACUC protocols. Acts as liaison between Vivarium and the laboratory on animal colony matters.

    • Generate data by handling of laboratory animals, including behavioral analyses (open field, rotarod, corner test), harvesting tissues for histological processing, brain sectioning, histology, protein analysis, and isolation of tissues for primary cell culture.

    • Ensures compliance with university and federal laboratory animal and safety regulations. Understands the critical role of the animal care and identification and the importance of his or her individual responsibility for the integrity of various aspects of research projects. Understands the detrimental consequences to research projects and animals that his or her failure to fulfill such responsibilities can entail.



    Cell Culture & Molecular Biology


    • Perform molecular biology protocols, such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, immunohistochemistry, isolation of protein, DNA and RNA from cells or tissues for Western blot, RT-PCR etc.

    • Manage laboratory cell line stocks and perform basic manipulations, including transfection and electroporation.


     

    Laboratory Management


    • Perform lab maintenance tasks including maintenance of laboratory space, preparing buffers and stock solutions, and writing up protocols. Maintaining inventory and equipment as needed and directed by laboratory manager.

    • Compile scientific data and maintain lab notebook for all experiments performed and analyze data.
