    Position Summary


    Seeking a Fire Extinguisher Inspector responsible for compliance within the Monthly Fire Extinguisher Inspection and Emergency Lighting Programs for all three campuses. This position has duties within the Fire and Life Safety Program, Emergency Evacuation Planning and Other safety programs. This position reports into the Environment Health & Safety (EH&S) department, a division of University Facilities at the University at Buffalo.

    These duties include but are not limited to:

    Fire & Life Safety Program



      • Managing the University’s monthly fire extinguisher inspection program, including the supervision of staff and maintenance of adequate records.

      • Inspecting, replacing / recharging and installing portable fire extinguishers.

      • Conducting code and building inspections for compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies.

      • Reviewing & investigating fire alarm system activations; determining cause(s) and identifying corrective actions.



     



    Emergency Evacuation Planning


    • Assist in the development and training in building evacuation plans to faculty, staff and students.

    • Participate in evacuation drills; provide guidance / feedback to evacuation teams.

    • Work with the Office of Equity Diversity and Inclusion to consult / meet specific needs of individuals requiring special accommodations.



    Other Safety Programs


    • Inspect & maintain respiratory protection equipment.

    • Participate as a member of the Haz Mat Response Team.

    • Assist with the Hot Work Permit Program.

    Minimum Qualifications



    • Associates degree with 2 years experience.

    • Equivalent combination of education and experience my be substituted for the degree.


    Preferred Qualifications



    • Documented training in the inspection and repair of portable fire extinguishers.

    • Certification as a New York Code Enforcement Officer

    • Degree in Fire Science or closely related science field


    Physical Demands


    Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including respirators and a self-contained breathing apparatus. Must be able to lift a minimum of 60 lbs. Requires extensive walking, bending and lifting.
