The Trades Specialist (Mason Plasterer) position is located within the Facilities Department at the University. The incumbent of this position will be responsible for:

  • Constructing forms.
  • Laying building materials such as stone, brick, concrete cinder block to construct or repair walls, partitions, utility manholes, walkways and stairs, firebrick linings in furnaces and chimneys.
  • Following blueprints and specifications by measuring distance from reference points and marking guidelines on working surfaces.
  • Mixing mortar; spreading on working surfaces.
  • Smoothing and finishing surfaces of poured concrete floors, walls and sidewalks to specified texture.
  • Applying ceramic tiles to walls, floors and ceilings.
  • Applying plaster to walls and ceilings. 
  • Repairs broken or loose plaster and other masonry surfaces.
  • Erecting scaffolding and ladders and work from them as needed.
  • Observing and inspecting the work in progress to insure job quality.
  • Overseeing a small work crew of semiskilled workers.
