This position is for the 2017-2018 academic year.

Create and promote an atmosphere conductive of academic pursuits (peer mentor) and to personal student development by advising, disciplining, and counseling individual students, making referrals when needed; developing effective student leadership for the residence hall.

Mediate conflicts that occur between roommates and among residents.
Concentrate on retention, of assigned area (theme housing, upper class, and/or freshman experience).
Manages the day-to-day operations of the residence hall by maintaining weekly office hours; maintains resident records; ensuring maintenance issues are corrected; promoting a secure environment; enforcing university and department policies and regulations.
Perform regular walk-a-rounds and inspections of areas supervised for facility and custodial concerns.
Coordinate and encourage proactive programming that encourages academic success, emotional and social growth, personal wellness and community development, and personal development; participating in program evaluations.
Supervise 7-8 resident or community advisors.
Maintain a visible presence in the residence halls through participation in residence functions, attendance at resident meetings, involvement in student programming, and frequent walk-throughs of the building(s).
Advise and guide RA/CAs on appropriate student and floor interventions.
Focus on leadership development with student organization and residence hall areas.
Assist in compiling and recording overall assessment data to give to the Coordinator for Housing and Residential Life.
Assist in Resident and Community Advisor recruitment, selection and training.
On-call responsibilities for all residence halls, part of a weekend rotation.
Other Responsibilities
Opportunity to assist Campus Life and Housing with campus-wide programming and other departmental projects.
Committee Service on university committees (e.g. retention, orientation, sustainability and diversity, shared governance).
Provide support and guidance to a Big 7 student organization including activities and meetings.
Assist with all housing related, informational on campus mailings and postings.
Assist in damage assessment and billing.
Auxiliary assignments (up to 15 hours per week) to include one of the following areas: Leadership and diversity; academic success; community outreach.
Co-advise NRHH.
Attend to summer duties/projects, as available.
Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) and a minimum of one (1) year prior experience in residential life and student affairs required.

Demonstrated leadership, crisis intervention training, program development skills, and committee involvement.

Ability to work within a team, motivate others, and available and willing to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings.

Effective communication skills (written and verbal), organizational skills, and human relation skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Familiar with social media platforms.

Candidates must have an understanding of student development theory, today’s first year college student, and the ability to work successfully in a university environment.
