The Department of Medicine within the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences seeks a Systems and Security Administrator. In this role as a Systems and Security Administrator you will work under supervision, to craft and sustain enterprise level services, combining computing and information systems expertise. Duties will include planning, implementing, upgrading, and monitoring security measures and investigating and implementing the development of new tools, software and technology.

Provide advanced systems support
  • Responsible for maintaining systems in compliance with UBIT minimum security requirements for networked endpoints/servers. Work with the Office of Medical Computing (OMC) as needed or requested to review and confirm these requirements are met. Promptly respond to and mitigate security issues identified by OMC or UB Information Technology (UBIT).
  • Support and troubleshoot Linux, UNIX, and cloud services and ensure system security and compliance with regulations.
  • Design and implement complex systems infrastructure.
  • Develop approaches to complicated problems where diagnostic data is incomplete.
  • Manage technical projects, provide expert consulting on technical initiatives, and actively participate in discussions on necessary infrastructure, budget needs, and service planning.

Ensure security measures for the protection of computer networks
  • Ensure appropriate security controls to safeguard digital files and vital electronic infrastructure.
  • Evaluate, test, coordinate, monitor, and maintain information security. Identify security risks and exposures, determine causes of security violations and suggest procedures to halt future incidents.
  • Develop techniques and procedures for conducting information systems security risk assessments and compliance audits, and evaluating and testing hardware, firmware, and software.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and maintain systems and procedures to protect the data systems and databases from unauthorized users.
  • Research, recommend and implement changes to procedures and systems to enhance data systems security.

Investigate and implement new tools, software, and technology
  • Provide technical expertise and translate user requirements to actionable systems.
  • Prepare detailed specifications for project management plans.
  • Review new systems design and develop plans for future applications to provide more cost effective, flexible, or user friendly environment.
  • Design, modify and analyze programming applications and make recommendations for system improvements and enhancements.
  • Design, code, test, debug, modify and document moderately complex systems. Ensure systems are successfully implemented.
