The Associate Director/Financial Aid Manager oversees Lehman Financial Aid personnel in implementation of CUNY’s integrated application, CUNYFirst. Reporting to the Director of Financial Aid Management, the Associate Director will work as part of a multi-functional team including senior members of the Lehman Financial Aid staff and the Lehman Information Services unit.

The Associate Director will:

  • Manage financial aid data to verify accuracy and develop strategies to alleviate any problems by providing the information necessary for solutions.
  • Identify systems issues, research problems, and develop solutions in concert with other Lehman offices and CUNY Central Office professionals.
  • Ensure financial aid compliance with CUNY, New York State, New York City, and Federal financial aid rules, regulations and statutes within the CUNYFirst system.
  • Train financial aid staff with routine financial aid processing as well as operating and managing systems interfaces.
  • Serve as the DPA, ASL and liaison with Central Office to secure proper security roles and system access for staff for both CUNYfirst and various federal systems.
  • Submit and monitor CRM tickets for the office.
  • Assess necessary systems security roles for office staff and others.
  • Participate in day-to-day office operations management, conduct special projects as assigned, and perform related duties which include staff supervision and representing the Director at meetings.
  • Serve as Financial Aid liaison to Disabilities Office, Veterans Office, SEEK office and Athletics.

Some evening and weekend work may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree and six (6) years of related experience in financial aid administration are required. Master’s Degree is preferred.

The preferred candidate will have:
- Knowledge and understanding of financial aid operations and best practices including data reporting and analysis
- Knowledge of the CUNYfirst system or equivalent student system
- Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks to prioritize and to work independently
- Superior communication skills, both written and oral to effectively communicate and train all employee levels within the University
- Strong analytical, research, and technical skills to evaluate and use data in planning and decision making
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and a high level of commitment to student service
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and demonstrated ability to learn and apply other software, as needed
- Ability to produce results as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment

The ability to communicate in writing is an important job-related competency. All candidates will draft a writing sample as part of the interview process to demonstrate their ability to write memos and letters that are grammatically correct and express information clearly.

- Manages financial aid activities and represents the office at on-campus and off-campus meetings and forums

- Manages day-to day administrative and systems operations for optimal efficiency and customer service; manages special processes such as Return of Title IV Aid

- Provides comprehensive financial counseling to parents and students

- Implements all necessary processes to support financial aid application, awarding and delivery cycles

- Oversees the coordination of financial aid activities with those of other College and University offices

- Implements and maintains web based services

- Performs related duties as assigned.
