JOB SUMMARY

The Software Test Engineer is a position within the Enterprise Application Operations team in ITS. The person is responsible for developing and executing software tests in order to ensure quality of the ERP system. The Software Test Engineer is also responsible for estimating, planning, developing test procedures, automated scripts and conducting testing activities. The person will identify, document, track and help resolve defects and performance issues within the ERP system. The person will work with the Developers, Architecture, Infrastructure and Business operations teams in order to resolve and recommend improvements to the ERP system.

The position also provides support for the University’s ERP system, assist with the ERP upgrades, and is responsible for leading system design and development efforts regarding the ERP, enterprise data warehouse, and associated systems. The position must work closely with continuants within and outside IT to design and implement solutions to meet the University’s goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Manage Automation and ERP systems

Design, develop, maintain, and execute performance test on ERP systems. Identify and develop manual and automated test scripts for ERP systems. Setup and maintain test environments. Schedule, coordinate, execute testing activities following upgrades. Help troubleshoot, identify and report bugs to vendors or developers. Review, analyze and document test results and metrics. Continually improve test processes and practices.

2. Lead ERP Development and Update Efforts

Provide ERP support, assist with ERP upgrades, and follow development life cycle for development efforts. Develop and automate integration data shared across legacy, new development, and purchased package through various ETL strategies. Assist with writing efficient code utilizing Oracle tools. Provide recommendation on how to improve departmental standards and ensure UST and ITS processes are followed for system development. Provide expert technical knowledge in decision making for technical solutions that best meet the customer’s need at UST.

4. Project Management

Be proficient and follow the ITS Project Management process. Develop project plans and estimates. Identify required resources, tools, milestones, and dependencies and assign respective roles and tasks. Manage project scope and ensure clear expectations between the infrastructure analyst team and stakeholders. Deliver projects on time and on budget. Serve in Project Manager role for internal Infrastructure Services projects as needed.

5. Administration Internal Procedures

Attend to administrative tasks such as attending department/team meetings, send and receive email, respond to voicemail, serve on departmental committees, etc. Is proficient with and follows ITS procedures for Communication Updates, Call/incident tracking, Installation and Inventory, Knowledge Base and Communication Guidelines.

6. Professional Development and Perform other Duties as Assigned

Remains current on information about higher education and technology industry trends. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, U.S. or foreign equivalent, in computer science, information systems, software engineering, or a field related to the work
Three years of professional experience with infrastructure/enterprise systems and support, or with application development
Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in a higher education/instruction institute is preferred but not required
Experience working as a collaborative lead preferred, including building and maintaining collaborative and flexible teams; setting team priority and direction as needed
