Position Summary
The University at Buffalo Police Department is seeking an HR & Business Manager who will be responsible for hiring/personnel management, budget/procurement, administration and grants. In this position you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting the entire search/hiring process which includes preparing and reviewing postings and leading search committees for both civil service and professional positions
  • Providing new employee orientation and employee training on various topics
  • Overseeing payroll and leave administration including FMLA, military leave, and worker’s compensation
  • Maintaining performance reviews and employee personal history folders
  • Serving as KRONOS TeleStaff scheduling administrator providing trouble shooting and employee assistance and maintaining the database
  • Leading the department’s annual resource planning process including developing account budgets, expenditure projections, updating state fees and depositing revenue and cash
  • Providing oversight for calculation and reconciliation of non-line personnel costs
  • Managing procurement such as preparing eReqs, managing PCard, and departmental travel
  • Analyzing various university police data and assisting with risk assessment, balanced scorecard, records retention and re-accreditation efforts
  • Planning, assigning, and supervising the work of seven subordinates (2 full-time, 5 student) including overseeing customer service and the operations of the Lost & Found Department
  • Managing grant opportunities from identification, preparation and submission of applications, award monitoring, and grant closeout
  • Ensuring UPD remains in compliance with grant and accreditation standards and UPD & UB policies

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of responsible work experience preferably in business and/or HR management in higher education.
  • Strong qualitative, analytical and writing skills
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to multitask and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with UB systems such as UB Jobs, ePTF, eREQ, Concur, eBudget
  • Familiarity with Civil Service hiring
  • Experience in strategic financial and Human Resource planning
