Position Summary
This is a grant-supported position with anticipated funding through March 31, 2020. The individual will be assigned to the ‘Developmental Pathways of Violence and Substance Use in a High Risk Sample’ under the supervision of Rina Eiden, Ph.D., Amanda Nickerson, Ph.D., and Meghan Casey and will be an employee of The Research Foundation for SUNY.
This is a lab-based longitudinal study of violence, victimization, and substance use among adolescents. Incumbent will be responsible for conducting observational and physiological assessments with adolescents and their families. Data collection also involves conducting the Trier Social Stress Test with adolescents and measuring heart rate, cortisol, and behavior. Assessments include conducting parent-adolescent interaction paradigms, maternal diagnostic interviews, and child self-reports, as well as collecting hair and saliva samples from adolescents. In addition to conducting assessments, the incumbent will be involved in tasks such as checking data and assisting with administrative tasks such as project mailings, photocopying, and updating project newsletters. Other project related tasks are assigned as needed.

Incumbent receives general direction for most activities. Incumbent receives more direct supervision when experimental or unusual processes are involved, and is expected to consult with their supervisor or Project Director as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree or two years formal training in Psychology or related field and minimum of one year’s experience conducting research in social sciences required. Six months conducting social science research interviews is required. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, computer literacy, and strong written and verbal communication skills are also integral to the position. Availability to work evenings and weekends required.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or related field preferred. Previous experience following research protocols, working with children and adolescents and substantive interest in adolescent development, violence, and substance use are highly desirable. Experience with Lotus Notes databases, Microsoft Word, and EndNote also highly desirable.
