The Staff Assistant coordinates and executes the various administrative activities of the Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, in the School of Public Health and Health Professions. This role is primarily focused on matters related to finance, human resources, and office management, and works closely with both the Chair and his Assistant. Along with the Assistant to the Chair, the Staff Assistant works collaboratively within the Department and School’s Dean’s Office, particularly in matters related to resource planning, financial and human resource management, and university policies.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Procurement processing, reconciling all departmental accounts (State, Research Foundation, and UB Foundation), managing contracts and grant related activities (post-award support), and budgeting.
- Assisting Dean’s Office Resource Planning office with faculty and staff recruitment, managing all aspects of student employee recruitment (TA/GA’s, Research Technicians, and Student Assistants), processing appointments (e-PTF’s, immigration filing, etc.), reappointments, promotions (including supporting the tenure process), and time and attendance tracking.
- Coordinating and executing the day-to-day operations of the department. Acting as the confidant to the Chair on matters related to overall departmental operations, and to support the Chair, as needed. Responsibilities for the day-to-day oversight of departmental staff and student employees, as assigned.

Associates degree with 2 years of experience in general office management or in higher education.
Bachelor’s degree; experience in finance, purchasing, business, and/or accounting; higher education experience in a decanal unit preferred; experience in human resources; Team player, willing to work in various levels of the organization, focusing on improving outcomes for the entire School and University.
