We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic individual dedicated to excellence to join our team as a Research Technician to support work on corneal diseases. Dr. Sangita Patel’s lab, Department of Ophthalmology, at the University of Buffalo, is located at the Buffalo VA Medical Center. The cornea is the primary lens of the eye, and its clarity is crucial for good vision. Dr. Patel’s lab studies the physiology of the corneal endothelium, the cell layer that maintains transparency of the cornea. The Research Technician is expected to facilitate new and ongoing experiments in the laboratory.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities - The successful candidate will support ongoing and new research activities in the lab including:

  • Maintaining upkeep of laboratory equipment and supplies
  • Maintaining electronic databases and documents
  • General laboratory maintenance/upkeep activities
  • Performing various bench laboratory protocols/experiments
  • Maintaining cell cultures
  • Working with human and cow eye tissue
  • Performing microscopy
  • Recording results
