Position Summary

The Asistant Director, Regional Engagement, serves in the Alumni Relations department within the Office of University Advancement. The Assistant Director will assist in the management of the Regional Clubs program and will assist in developing programs and policies and procedures that support volunteer leadership. The Assitant Director must be skilled at developing high level strategic volunteer management programs that are effective, impactful and provide autonomy and empowerment to alumni, parents and friends. The position will also be responsible for engaging these volunteers philanthropically by working closely with development, annual fund and major gift staff, and will represent the broader goals of University Advancement to both internal and external constituencies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and management of regional programs which engage alumni, parents and friends in structured volunteer activity that supports University Advancement goals and the Universitys strategic imperatives. The position will assist in developing programs, policies and procedures to identify, recruit, orient, manage and evaluate alumni, parents and friend volunteers.
  • Oversee Regional Clubs for small, mid and emerging markets.
  • Oversee the distribution of scholarship funds from Club fundraising events, in addition to overseeing Club game watches, St. Thomas of Villanova Day activities, and assist with the Nova Challenge.
  • Assist in developing and managing programs and activities to continuously train and educate volunteers using a variety of mediums including the bi-annual Volunteer Leaders Conference, webinars, electronic communications, on site visitation and on campus conferences. Education will focus on leadership skills, planning, event management, communication, University information and other important facets of volunteer involvement and leadership.
  • Assist the Director in developing a systematic approach to recognize volunteer contributions and to steward volunteers, past and present. This will include overseeing the awards and recognition program.
  • Assist the Director in developing effective means of communication to implement and manage the volunteer engagement program to include print, electronic and social media.
  • Assist in developing and managing programs that support University Advancement fundraising goals by educating and inspiring alumni, parents and friends to give; identifying major gift prospects, striving to achieve a 100% giving rate among registered volunteers and to support University Advancement alumni participation goals.
  • Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required; masters degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in volunteer management, event planning and teaching & training, preferably in a higher education setting. Able to work effectively as part of a team as a highly motivated and hardworking professional. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects effectively. Candidate will demonstrate a fierce desire to succeed with a positive, energetic and collegial approach to his/her work.
  • 2-4 years of relevant and high level experience in the area of volunteer management, preferably in an advancement/development/alumni relations setting.
  • Strong public speaking skills along with writing and technical skills. Ability to strategize and envision, manage complex projects, delegate effectively and assess results using data. Ability to utilize social media to achieve goals. Knowledge of best practices within alumni relations/advancement/development in a higher education setting.
  • Practical knowledge and ability to utilize all technologies to achieve goals.

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours

This position will travel on a regular basis, often by air, and must be willing to work evenings and weekends. Extended hours beyond the typical work week may be expected.
