Position Summary
Campus Living is accepting applications for the
Maintenance Assistant position. In this role, you will work with a team of dynamic and diverse individuals and ensure that structures and equipment are installed correctly, properly maintained and repaired as needed across UBs North and South campuses. All the Student Life trades, and custodial staff work within UBs residential halls and apartments.
In a typical year, Campus Living houses up to 7,500 students at UB. Our skilled trades and custodial staff care for the buildings our students live in. Our priority is the health and safety of our students. Without dedicated cleaners and maintenance staff, the university would not be able to have a residential program.
Key accountabilities and responsibilities:As a Maintenance Assistant, your contributions will ensure that structures and equipment are installed correctly, properly maintained, and repaired as needed.
Responsibilities include:
- Performs routine replacement and repair of plumbing equipment.
- Repairing and installing equipment such as dishwashers, laundry equipment, repair leaks in water lined.
- Maintain and hang signage.
- Semiskilled carpentry activities including repairing doors, windows, stairs, railing, furniture, locks, and door hardware.
- Masonry and concrete repairs or installations
- Paint and make repairs to vacant living spaces.
- Install light fixtures, outlets, and switches.
- Repair electrical equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
Non-competitive: Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
*Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State drivers license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.

Physical Demands
Routine tasks require light to moderately heavy physical effort. The ability to be in a stationary position, ascend/descend, position self to complete tasks, and work at elevated heights using ladders and scaffolds for extended periods of time is required.

$42,641
