Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Worldwide announces an exciting opportunity within the Department of Online Education. The Associate Director of the Rothwell Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) at the Embry- Riddle Worldwide (CTLE-W) campus frequently with faculty members, College Administration, Deans and ERAU Worldwide leadership to ensure academic excellence. This position will lead the department in the absence of the Executive Director. The CTLE-W supports approximately 2,000 faculty teaching in multiple modalities.

The Associate Director’s primary function is to assist the Executive Director – CTLE-W in the daily operations of the team. The Associate Director will assist in the supervision of all employees within the department and be responsible for supervision of all student employees. Due to the supervisory nature of this position, this role is physically located at Worldwide Headquarters (WWHQ) in Daytona Beach, Fla. and does not support regular remote work.

This individual is expected to provide guidance on a variety of professional development programs for faculty that enhance their teaching and quality of instruction in all modalities. This includes assigning the monthly faculty development (FACD) courses and special projects to the CTLE team and any adjunct FACD instructors as needed as well as reviewing CTLE projects and content created. The Associate Director will also assist in the maintenance, updates, and revisions of all FACD courses, address any issues that arise in the teaching of FACD courses, and escalate outstanding issues to the Executive Director or colleges when necessary.

The Associate Director is responsible for coordinating annual adjunct faculty observations/evaluations for our Academic colleges. This position will also assist in administering annual performance evaluations and daily personnel performance (coaching and mentoring) for 11 direct reports. Assists with the interviewing, hiring, and training of new staff. Works cooperatively with constituents from other departments and represents the Department of Online Education as a leader. In particular, this position in collaboration with the Executive Director will oversee the strategic planning and operations of faculty development and oversight. Additionally, this position will assist with student grievances, ad hoc committees, and faculty issues. The Associate Director position requires a strong technical skillset to ensure process efficiency and will develop/update processes regularly with the assistance of IT. Furthermore, is accountable for obtaining departmental targets in faculty quality development and oversight. Participates in development and implementation of strategic and tactical plans.

The Associate Director will be required at times to represent CTLE-W and the Department of Online Education at various speaking engagements, such as department presentations and national conferences, and the hosting of center- related webinars to inform or update stakeholders of new CTLE-W initiatives, programs, or processes. This requires, at times, the utilization of Embry-Riddle’s EagleVision online conferencing software package and various presentation packages; both of which require confidence in speaking and training publicly whether in a face-to-face (F2F) or video/Web-based modality. The Associate Director may also represent CTLE-W and Department of Online Education on campus and university committees and interact with other Worldwide and ERAU departments and colleges on a regular basis.

This position requires solid understanding of teaching principles, especially in the online modality, along with maintaining a high-level of technical competency in using general computer software including the Canvas Learning Management System and Adobe Connect. Therefore, this individual must stay current in teaching and technology trends, remain informed of Embry-Riddle’s curriculum, teaching practices, and faculty policies, and be skilled in identifying research-based teaching practices.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree
(3-5) years of work related experience, specifically within a leadership and supervisory role
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Analytical skills with an in depth knowledge of information systems and technical expertise with Microsoft operating systems, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook/email, LMS systems, and Internet end-user applications.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff, students, and faculty
Provide excellent customer service to students, co-workers, staff, faculty and other constituents
Maintain cooperative working relationships with all stakeholders
Good organizational skills
Ability to recognize and deal with priorities; recognize and perform duties not directly assigned;
and assist others as needed
Ability to learn new things and keep up with the pace of changing technology
Ability to investigate, problem solve and take corrective action
Maintain a positive, professional image both personally and for the QM Team
