Reporting to the Dean of Michael Graves College, the Librarian will specialize in architecture and related disciplines, including planning, landscape, interiors and urban design. This role involves managing and developing a specialized collection for these disciplines, providing advanced bibliographic instruction and supporting research for faculty, students and staff. This includes overseeing a separate collection at Wenzhou-Kean University in China, requiring knowledge of international library systems and practices.

 

The Librarian will play an important role in the provision of library services to the campus community and in accomplishing the overall objectives of the Michael Graves College and Nancy Thompson Learning Commons. This position offers the opportunity to play a crucial role in enhancing the academic success of students and faculty in architecture and related disciplines, both locally and internationally. The Librarian will be a key figure in bridging resources and research across cultures and continents. This position will actively engage with faculty regarding the future of the professional program in Architecture.

 

This position holds concurrent faculty rank as Instructor in the Library. The Librarian will teach library orientation and instruct individuals on use of library materials and research methods; and perform related work as required.

 

This position requires a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours. Work schedule is assigned according to operations that may vary by academic and calendar year. Some travel is also required.

 

Qualifications: Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited college is required. Experience in managing architecture-related collections and working in an international or multicultural environment is preferred. Candidate must have the following knowledge and skillsets: advanced knowledge of architecture-related resources, including specific databases and bibliographies; expertise in the Library of Congress classification system and subject headings, with a focus on architecture and related fields; proficiency in specialized database retrieval systems and microcomputer applications for architecture-related collections; strong understanding of cataloguing rules and online cataloging, especially for specialized materials; skill in teaching advanced research techniques and search strategies in architecture and related disciplines; and the ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, including international students and faculty.
