Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director of Student Affairs is responsible for the development, implementation, and assessment of services and programs of engagement to promote student success and support learning, inclusiveness, and growth of all students. The Director of Student Affairs will work collaboratively and cross-divisionally on programs, and with staff, to create a co-curricular student experience, aligned with mission and strategic planning objectives. The Director provides leadership on a university-wide basis, and directly supervises staff and programs related to Housing, Student Activities, and Leadership. The director will coordinate the University new student orientation program and will facilitate the Divisions leadership initiative for student leaders working collaboratively with other University Divisions and Offices to do so.

RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):

  • Responsible for providing strategic leadership, communication, and programming to foster and support student success, and connect Student Affairs’ efforts to the University community.
  • Responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation, and assessment of Student Affairs-sponsored programs, events, and activities for all student groups (i.e. residential, commuter, adult, transfer) which are aligned with mission and strategic planning objectives. This includes, but is not limited to, on-campus housing programming, Orientation programs, and student engagement activities.
  • Serves as primary divisional liaison/partner on student success initiatives to impact recruitment, enrollment, student experiences and satisfaction.
  • Works collaboratively with offices as needed to address and resolve student issues and concerns, update division’s calendar, procedures and policies, and carry out mission and vision.
  • Coordinates and assesses outcomes-based Student Leadership programs for Student Affairs, which includes leadership initiatives, programming, and an annual Student Leadership conference.
  • Coordinates and oversees budget planning/management, purchasing, disciplinary aspects, safety procedures, evaluation of physical facilities, preparation of pertinent reports, and daily interface with on- and off-campus personnel in support of student success.
  • Coordinates University Student Orientation in collaboration with other University Divisions.
  • Supervises and evaluates Student Affairs staff, including Housing and Student Activities staff.
  • Serves as Student Affairs’ advocate on various committees, attends programs/events, and stands in the Vice President/Dean’s stead, as assigned.
  • Maintains cell phone availability and on-call rotation for campus emergency issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree required, preferably in student personnel/college student development or higher education.
  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in one or more areas of student affairs.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may be considered.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Flexible and able to multi-task.
  • Possess solid general computer skills, including ability to work in a Windows environment. Familiarity with specific applications used by the University a plus.
  • Able to function independently while operating effectively within a team environment.
  • Excellent oral and written skills and ability to communicate comfortably with students, colleagues, and external constituents.
  • Cultural competency to work with diverse student and/or employee population.
  • Professional, courteous demeanor and appearance; ability to work professionally with students, faculty, staff and administration and represent the University professionally to the public.
  • Exhibits a high level of professionalism, leadership, creative problem solving, diplomacy, negotiation and sales skills, and the ability to manage complex projects with minimal supervision.
  • Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

GRADE 40; salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
