Departmental Overview

The Innovative Genomics Institute uses genome engineering approaches to address problems in human health, climate, and sustainable agriculture.

Responsibilities

  • Under the general supervision of the PI and INGENUITI project lead, the SRA conducts histological and molecular laboratory procedures with human and animal tissues, including tissue fixation and processing, tissue sectioning, protein and nucleic acid extraction, and tissue labeling with antibodies or other molecular probes.
  • Optimizes antibodies for various new tissue types.
  • Generates data using microscopes, gene expression profiling equipment, and spatial-omics equipment.
  • Records and reviews data to ensure accuracy and identify issues.
  • Drafts, optimizes, and continually updates standard operating procedures for preparing samples, conducting analyses, and processing data.
  • Assists with equipment setup and maintenance, and tracks inventory of associated reagents and supplies.
  • Secures data storage and management.
  • General lab maintenance including biological waste disposal and organizing freezer/fridge/cabinet space.
  • Participates in training and compliance activities for biological safety, human subjects research, HIPAA, equipment use, and other mandated requirements.


Required Qualifications

  • Highly self-motivated and independent worker.
  • Good organization skills for keeping track of the schedule, paperwork, sample storage, and inventory.
  • General computer skills (Google Suite: Docs, Sheets, Slides) for keeping track of results and sharing progress.
  • Experience in histology.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in molecular biology.
  • Experience in genome editing.
  • Experience in microscopy.


Education/Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or related field and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Certificate, associate's degree, or other training in histotechnology.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $58,490.82 (step 1.0) - $90,455.87 (step 23.0).

  • This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
  • This position is exempt and paid monthly.
