Position Overview:

This position is a part of the Enterprise Service Management (ESM / ServiceNow) Team in the Campus Applications & Data (CAD) unit in Berkeley IT. The ESM team supports a robust set of widely-used service management tools through the ServiceNow platform, and is entering an exciting time of investment in UC Berkeley's service management culture and capabilities.

We are looking for a skilled developer with demonstrated experience administering and developing in a complex platform, preferably ServiceNow. This person will work with clients, peers and subject matter experts to ensure that the configuration of and customizations to the ServiceNow platform adhere to the service designs, goals and strategy.

Responsibilities

ServiceNow Development Activities:

  • Performs moderately complex and advanced applications programming techniques within ServiceNow using JavaScript, and one or more of the following: PrototypeJS, Angular, React.
  • Code programs of moderate complexity using multiple JavaScript libraries, including creating new scripts, libraries, and applications.
  • Performs maintenance on existing code and develops new code.
  • Optimizes code for query performance, understands inherent ServiceNow database structures and their impact on design and understands data types and their impact on design.
  • Develops and executes moderately complex test plans to validate code.
  • Able to understand and develop automated tests and how to engage with Quality Assurance (QA) management, test coverage, and testing of code.
  • Engages in continuous professional development and training.


Design:

  • Designs, implements and validates access controls to protect data while enabling user interactions.
  • Engineers solutions to business problems including deriving logical processes on technical platforms.
  • Engages in performance/integration testing, business and technical analysis, data analysis, and data modeling.
  • Designs effective user system interfaces (including forms, UI elements, and reports) and business application prototypes in collaboration with analysts and stakeholders.
  • Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates programs for functional areas that are moderately complex and have broad, campus-wide impact.
  • Takes business requirements - including business processes and existing applications - and assists in developing conversion and implementation plans to move the customer to ServiceNow.
  • Regularly participates in the analysis of existing programs or works to formulate logic for new and existing systems, devises logic procedures, prepares flowchart diagrams, performs coding, and tests/debugs programs.


Database and Reporting:

  • Initiates, develops, designs and uses moderately complex data, fields, and tables.
  • Retrieves necessary elements through SQL or JavaScript.
  • Develops reports and dashboards in accordance with user requirements and platform standards.


System Administration:

  • Performs moderately complex system administrative duties on ServiceNow instances.


Documentation and Training:

  • Collaborates on creating documentation of the implementation of the ServiceNow system and programming practices.
  • Assists in training users in the use of ServiceNow and related systems, such as Tableau.
  • Engages in continuous professional development and training


Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of application development processes (Agile Scrum, Waterfall)
  • At least 2 years of ServiceNow application programming and administration experience, and knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and object oriented programming concepts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Must be able to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Must be self-motivated, work independently and as part of a team, able to learn quickly, meet deadlines and demonstrate problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the advancement of diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, justice, and accessibility.
  • Completed ServiceNow Admin and Developer training.
  • Completed ITIL or Service Management Training


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with advanced JavaScript programming, including React and/or AngularJS.
  • Experience with other programming languages, particularly Python and/or Ruby.
  • Familiarity with Service Management practices such as Incident Management, Change management, Problem Management, HR Service Management, Customer Service management, Chargeback Service Management, Service Catalog, Knowledge Management, CDSM, and/or CMDB.
  • Experience with RESTful interfaces and API development and maintenance.
  • Experience with ServiceNow App Engine Studio & application development.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $86,500.00 - $115,000.00.

  • This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
  • This position is exempt and paid monthly.
  • This position is eligible for flexible and full-remote work (telecommuting) based on candidate availability and business needs.
