The RISD Museum is pleased to announce an opening for a Gallery Host. Under supervision of the public and academic program educators, the Gallery Host takes responsibility for hosting and maintaining a drop-in drawing studio space in the Museum. This space offers Museum visitors an opportunity to experiment with drawing materials and techniques in coordination with the exhibition Lines of Thought: Drawing from Michelangelo to Now. The Host will make visitors welcome and support their investigation of drawing as a means to express thoughts and ideas. The successful candidate will have an enthusiasm for art and art-making, familiarity with drawing materials and processes, and comfort communicating with diverse audiences of all ages.

The Host will:

  • Proactively and amiably orient visitors of all ages and abilities to the studio space
  • Support visitors’ personal exploration of drawing exercises by explaining and demonstrating prompts, helping choose materials, and making connections to works on view
  • Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the space and stock material supplies
  • Work closely with educators to support facilitated programs in the studio space (assist with set-up and materials, summarize the program and exhibition for visitors and invite them to join, etc.)
  • Fulfill additional duties as needed, including wayfinding and communication with education and security staff
