Building Technician

Location: McCall

Pay Range: $15.56 per hour or higher commensurate with experience

Full/Part Time: Full Time

Position Summary:

Perform skilled duties in the operation, maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment, grounds and related facilities and systems at the University of Idaho, McCall Field Campus (MFC), and to serve as an interface between campus sustainability and educational programming. Perform preventative maintenance work on building exteriors and interiors according to schedule. Track expenses, oversee purchases and maintain a detailed operations budget that is updated each fiscal year based on projected goals and expenses. Assist in hiring/screening, training and supervision of janitorial, temporary help, student help and community service personnel. Provide MOSS program support in the areas of campus and environmental sustainability. Must be able to work weekends as needed. This is an essential position that will be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or University closure.

Minimum Qualifications:

Good knowledge of the materials, methods, and equipment used in heavy- duty custodial works.
Valid drivers license and the ability to pass a driving record check.
Demonstrated ability to perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair involving carpentry, plumbing, electrical and general building maintenance trade work.
Experience using landscaping tools and equipment to maintain grounds for both safety and beauty.
Good knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word and basic internet functions.
Demonstrated dependability: commitment to teamwork, effective communication, and professional human relation skills.
Demonstrated ability to carry out written and oral instructions of direct supervisor and strong attention to safety practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in construction trades, commercial landscaping and commercial janitorial work.
Experience with the public, previous experience in a service related industry, managing small crews, project layout and assignment, working in a university/academic environment.
An understanding of outdoor leadership and environmental education and practices.
Commitment to the positive physical, mental, social, and emotional development of youth.
Demonstrated ability to conduct outdoor environmental education programs for all ages
Demonstrated ability and commitment to work in a team-based atmosphere
Previous experience creating and managing a budget

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

Must be able to lift, carry, or otherwise move 90 pounds.
Must be able to climb and work from ladders, stand and walk continuously, and operate power equipment and automotive vehicles.
Nights and weekends may be required
Shift may vary depending on season and need
Must be able to work during inclement weather.
