Communications and Marketing Coordinator

Position Summary:

The IBEST Communications and Marketing Coordinator ensures effective internal and external communication in a variety of areas by leading and collaborating on assorted communication efforts within the unit and across campus. This position advances the reputation of IBEST through purposeful and creative messaging that is tied to the strategic initiatives of IBEST and builds campus wide and public understanding and support for the teaching and research mission of IBEST specifically, and the University of Idaho in general. This position consults with researchers within IBEST as a means of gathering information about activities within the unit and across campus. Creates and implements communication strategies and marketing materials to meet the goals and mission of IBEST. Writes, edits, and creates a variety of marketing materials in electronic and print format, including but not limited to event flyers, reports, forms, web content, brochures, posters, fact sheets, news releases, and promotional articles and other publications. Originates, designs and maintains the IBEST website, social media presence, and IBEST online communications. Collaborates on data collection for a variety of reports and maintains the IBEST reporting databases. Collaborates on planning and promoting special events for high profile guests, official activities, and meetings. Responsibilities include: writing, photography, marketing, and print and web content development. Provides administrative coordination support. Serves as a primary point of contact for the Institute; coordinating and maintaining (online) calendars; providing excellent customer service; and assisting with day-to-day office operations. This staff position reports to the IBEST Program Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in communications, marketing, public relations, graphic design, digital media or a related field and two years of professional experience, or a combination of education and experience totaling 6 years

Excellent writing, editing, verbal and presentation skills

Proficient knowledge of marketing principles

Experience planning and executing marketing plans and initiatives to achieve organizational goals

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects under competing deadlines

Working knowledge of web design principles, basic HTML, printing processes, graphics formats and effective design, photography and video principles

Established record of collaboration and good intrapersonal and communication skills with diverse internal and external constituents

Demonstrated ability to translate technical or specialized information for public use and understanding

Working knowledge of composing a variety of business documents and researching, compiling, and summarizing data for reports; filing; and various office support functions

Proficiency in Microsoft Word/Pages, PowerPoint/Keynote, Photoshop or other photo-editing program, InDesign/Quark, and Final Cut Pro/Adobe Premier

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree in communications, marketing, public relations, graphic design, digital media or a related field

Experience collaborating with web designers and designing websites via content management systems

Experience using a content management system for publishing web content

Experience working in higher education, or STEM fields of study

Experience producing and editing informational and marketing collateral

Experience writing press releases

Ability to work on ones own initiative and be self-motivated

Willingness to contribute to team effort to achieve goals of the institute

Exceptional oral and written communication

Experience working with administrative and/or research professionals, including writing and editing proposals for submission

Experience in graphic design, illustration, artwork and photography

Ability to perform graphic arts services using computer technology (design composition, artwork, illustration, photo manipulation) to produce high quality products
