Computer Operations Tech 1
$14.68 per hour or higher depending on experience
The Computer Operations Technician I reports to the Manager of Server Operations and Endpoint Management and is responsible for routine operations, physical equipment support and transfers, including but not limited to: replacing UPS batteries and other failed or worn components, moving servers and other hardware between data centers, and other repeatable operational tasks supporting department activities. This position performs computer-based activities requiring privileged access to server systems. This position also requires some physical activities.
1 year of experience in a computer support related capacity.
Experience installing modern Windows or Linux operating systems.
Knowledge of Windows or Linux operating systems and related technologies, including troubleshooting tools and methods, security, patching, and backups.
Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting computer hardware and software.
Knowledge of issues and concerns involving computer security.
Experience with one or more scripting languages.
Experience interacting and communicating with coworkers to identify and resolve complex system problems.
High attention to detail and self-organization skills.
Knowledge of networking configuration and functionality, including concepts necessary to troubleshoot connectivity problems from the client perspective.
Demonstrated experience working well in a team.
Experience reliably completing routine tasks and operations as well as self-managing projects to completion.
Ability to maintain quality documentation.
Ability to follow established procedures to a high degree of consistency and quality.
Ability and willingness to follow direction from manager and peers.
Interest and ability to work with server operations center technology such as server cabinets, UPSs, structured cabling, fiber optics, and data center facilities.
Able to do administrative and clerical tasks such as ordering, tracking, shipping, and receiving of software, computers or parts.
Demonstrated record of delivering quality customer service and communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
Willingness to work with both Linux and Windows operating systems.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Ability to lift. carry, and/or otherwise move up to 75 pounds.
Ability to bend, squat, crawl and navigate confined spaces both under desks and behind equipment.
Must have a flexible and professional attitude towards working hours.
