Position Summary
In this role, you will be preforming a wide range of duties for the Environment, Health, and Safety (EH&S) unit at the University at Buffalo.

Duties include:

  • Hazardous Waste/Materials Collection Management and Disposal.
  • Radiation Safety/Waste Collection.
  • Chemical Bulk Handling.
  • Inspections, delivering chemical reagents, preparing reports, and maintaining inspection records.
  • Acting as a member of UB’s Emergency Response Team which includes responding to chemical spills and chemical-related emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications
An Associate’s degree plus excellent customer service skills and good interpersonal communications skills are required.

Experience that would allow above average ability to use and understand chemical naming conventions and terminology.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, and Outlook programs.

You will have frequent oral and written communication with professional staff (Ph.D., MD, Senior Researchers, Lab Technicians), clerical staff (secretaries and clerks), physical plant staff (cleaners, shop personnel, etc.), graduate and undergraduate students, most university departments and outside vendors. Thus, you must communicate well with individuals and be able to independently recognize potentially unsafe conditions and act accordingly to correct the situation.

A valid New York State driver’s license is required. The incumbent must pass a US DOT physical and obtain a CDL license with HazMat endorsement upon employment.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with an associates/advanced degree in the specific field of Chemistry or a closely related scientific area of study with a Chemistry concentration. Documented knowledge and experience in hazardous waste management. Knowledge of chemistry which includes the ability to recognize incompatible chemical classes. Experience with US EPA, NY DEC, US DOT regulations. Creative problem solving skills.
