JOB SUMMARY
The Veterans Admissions & Academic Counselor plays a vital role in recruiting, enrolling, and advising incoming veteran and military students. The Veterans Admissions & Academic Counselor is the first point of contact for prospective military and veteran students, manages a recruitment territory, actively analyzes data, develops marketing strategies and makes admissions decisions to achieve the Veteran enrollment goals of the institution. This role communicates with prospective student veterans about credit transfer and the application process, academic programs, extracurricular opportunities, housing, and costs/financial aid. The Veterans Admissions & Academic Counselor continues to serve enrolled St. Thomas military and veteran students by providing individual academic advising, assisting in degree planning, and connecting advisees with appropriate university resources as necessary. Night, weekend work, and travel are requirements of this position. This is a three-year, donor-funded, position with possibility of renewal.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Student Veteran Recruitment: Meet with prospective military and veteran undergraduate students and present information regarding the St. Thomas experience, the admissions process, and university information through a variety of channels and provide quality customer service to all impacted audiences. Work with student veterans to guide them on veteran policies and veteran benefits. Serve as a liaison to graduate admissions, collaboratively supporting their recruitment of military and veteran graduate students.Academic Advising and Planning: Provide academic advising for undergraduate veteran and military students via in-person, e-mail, phone appointments, and drop-in advising services. Provide education and guidance in regard to the St. Thomas core curriculum and academic programs. Interpret degree evaluations and communicate with appropriate university departments to assist in degree evaluation edits/corrections. Assist students with course selection, course sequencing, and four-year graduation plans. Admission Application and Credit Transfer Review: Assist in the evaluation of applicant’s academic record and any scholarships or grants extended to admitted students. Prepare evaluations of how students’ previously earned credit will transfer to St. Thomas and present this information during personal appointments, telephone calls, and electronic mail. Explain official degree evaluations to admitted students. Review Dean’s Form and collaborate with Dean of Students Office when needed for guidance.Course Registration: Facilitate course registration for veteran and military student veterans. Conduct individual registration appointments for new veteran students. Assist with advising needs for new students before/during/after the Orientation & Registration program, as needed. Assist student veterans with issues related to transfer credit, course petitions, and degree requirements. Territory Management and Data Analysis: Analyze recruitment data with the university CRM and enterprise system to strategically manage a recruitment territory and to determine travel and communication plans. Implement effective technological communication and measure its success. Develop and implement new strategies, communication plans, and events to generate additional interest in St. Thomas, help student veterans complete applications, and enroll at St Thomas.Individual Projects/Collateral Duties: Remain current on the scholarship of academic advising, student development, and student recruitment; representation on campus committees, including the Veteran Services Committee; Technology development (e.g. website development); programs, services and outreach to engage veteran and military students with academic planning and support resources.Event Planning and Implementation: Oversee the planning of various events, both on and off campus, for prospective military and veteran students. Work with campus vendors, faculty, current students, and other community members to provide a campus visit experience that positively influences enrollment yield objectives and revenue at the University of St. Thomas. Work with student services coordinators, faculty, and student club leadership to coordinate group visits.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
At least four years of experience in program administration/office management
Must possess a valid driver’s license

Preferred qualifications:
An earned master’s degree
Experience as an academic advisor/counselor, and as a tour guide, student ambassador, intern, or related higher education experience, etc.Related experience in marketing, sales, event planning, sales, territory management, relationship building, and customer service
Experience working as a/working with veterans
