Director of Residence Life

Position Summary
This position reports to the Director of Residence Life, and is accountable for assisting the Director with ensuring a safe and attractive living area for students which is conducive to intellectual, social, and personal growth. The Office of Residence Life, which this position is part of, provides programs that meet the cultural and recreational needs of students; provides support, counseling and referral services; and promotes student responsibility, accountability and leadership experiences. The Assistant/Associate Director serves in the absence of the Director in all matters pertaining to Residence Life.

This is a 12-month, full-time position.

Principal Accountabilities
QUALITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS:

Principal Accountabilities:
1. Provide support to the Director with the activities required to ensure a proper, safe and clean living environment for resident students.
2. Assist the Director with departmental tasks, such as department representation at major events (e.g., Admitted Student Day, Orientation, etc.), facilities management, liaison with other departments, etc.
3. Manage the overall housing operation including incoming student housing assignments, returning student housing selection, break housing, facilitation of the opening and closing of Residence Halls, providing housing data to campus constituents, damage assessment, billing process, maintenance and updates of housing software, etc.
4. Serve on the administrator on call duty rotation.
5. Provide support, counseling and referral services for students.
6. Promote student responsibility, accountability and leadership experiences.
7. Maintain accurate records and files associated with residence halls.
8. Maintain a detailed knowledge of University policies and procedures related to residence life and work with the Resident/Area Directors and Resident Assistants to ensure that these are effectively communicated to resident students and the Community.
9. Oversee the room change process, housing waitlist and resolve housing assignment issues.
10. Supervise the Housing Coordinator and paraprofessional office staff.
11. Participate in the University Student Conduct Process as appropriate and work with the Associate Dean on student conduct related initiatives.
12. Facilitate the medical accommodation process for students seeking accommodations.
13. Administer departmental assessment tools, collect data, monitor occupancy rates, and provide recommendations and reports. Assist in coordinating metrics for strategic initiatives.
14. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
This position is best served by a person with:

Assistant Director:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in student affairs administration.
  • Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling or related field.
  • Experience with residence life/housing processes and software (experience with StarRez software preferred).

Associate Director:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with progressively increasing responsibility in student affairs administration.
  • Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling or related field.
  • Leadership experience in and exposure to various aspects of residence life preferred.
  • Experience with residence life/housing processes and software (experience with StarRez software preferred).

The title for this position is commensurate upon level of experience.
