The Managing Director shall be responsible in conjunction with the director for the overall success and sustainability of the Under-Told Stories Project, a collaboration between the University of St. Thomas and the PBS NewsHour, including the development of enduring academic and journalistic partnerships and fundraising in support of these efforts.


Take the lead in leveraging the rich content of UTS reports for greatest impact and expand their use at the University of St. Thomas, the world-wide Ashoka University consortium and beyond, and to seek financial support for such expansion.
Handle the administration of the Under-Told Stories Project, including budgeting and other financial responsibilities, staff supervision, contract negotiations, scheduling and event management.
In conjunction with the director and development staff at St. Thomas, develop grant proposals soliciting support both for general operations and specific journalism projects, either for the Under-Told Stories Project alone or in partnership with other journalism enterprises.
Pursue partnerships with journalism, civic and academic organizations to develop special reporting projects that greatly expand the scope of a typical Under-Told Stories Project segment to enhance the understanding of timely global issues.
Oversee the expanded use of social media to greatly increase the visibility and impact of the Under-Told Stories Project.
Convene gatherings that raise the profile of the Under-Told Stories Project as a "venue" in the social innovation and entrepreneurship space.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or a related field
Ten years of experience in television journalism and field production

Prior experience in a low-resource, developing world setting

Preferred Qualifications

Extensive experience in all aspects of video-based story production and journalism
A keen understanding of solutions-oriented journalism and its potential as a powerful teaching tool
