Departmental Overview
Established on July 1, 2012, with a grant from the Simons Foundation, the Simons Institute is housed in Calvin Lab, a dedicated building on the UC Berkeley campus. The Institute brings together the world's leading researchers in theoretical computer science and related fields, as well as the next generation of outstanding young scholars, to explore deep unsolved problems about the
nature and limits of computation.

Responsibilities
20% - Serves as the primary support person and local IT and AV systems expert for mission critical projects in the service of the Simons Institute, ensures access to systems, and troubleshoots unique IT-related problems. Assists in providing providing routine support for visitors as well as local faculty and staff, remaining available for technical questions.
20% - Applies IT concepts to perform complex analyses and functions from multiple IT areas of specialization.
15% - Analyzes and maintains complex audiovisual systems. Works with a wide variety of audiovisual systems technologies, networks and computer hardware and software, applying the appropriate solution to non-standard problems.
10% - Analyzes, proposes, and implements systems enhancements to improve the performance and reliability of AV and IT systems. Analyzes business problems to be solved with automated systems. Analyzes complex programs, formulates logic, and performs coding, testing/debugging for new systems.
10% - As a member of a dynamic team in a startup environment, the person in this role will take on a variety of tasks not included within the job description, some of which may not be specifically IT-related.
5% - Analyzes, maintains, and develops websites, web applications, and integrations between web services.
5% - Maintains security configurations for network firewalls, web applications, servers, desktops, and other systems.
5% - Manages desktop computers and centralized computer servers. Plans and consults regarding the purchase, upgrade and installation of new equipment, equipment upgrades, operating systems and utilities software.
5% - May train users in conversion and implementation of systems.
5% - Implements related business processes.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to troubleshoot complex AV systems.
- Ability to perform basic repairs and maintenance on AV equipment.
- Experience managing and configuring web applications used for complex business processes.
- Experience deploying and managing websites on hosting platforms like Pantheon, Acquia, or WPEngine.
- Ability to create and modify web content using HTML, CSS, and javascript.
- Ability to perform administration tasks on Salesforce.
- Knowledge of Drupal, Wordpress, or other CMS.
- Ability to manage document storage and sharing on Google Drive.
- Ability to write and modify python or shell scripts.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or data science and / or equivalent experience / training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with FormAssembly, Docusign, YouTube, MailChimp, AppsScript, Google Workspace, Zoom Webinar.
- Knowledge of web automation technologies such as webhooks and REST APIs.
- Ability to perform system administration tasks on Linux servers.
- Ability to troubleshoot networking problems.
- Knowledge of web technologies and protocols such as IP, HTTP, SSL, DNS.
- Ability to perform code repository tasks using git. (Knowledge of code repository tools such as git.)

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $45.00 - $47.00.
