This position is responsible for the management of the daily operations of UNLV School of Medicine (SOM) division of Academic Affairs and Education which operates both at the UNLV Shadow Lane Campus and 2040 W. Charleston Blvd. in order to meet all programming goals and the mission of the School to deliver medical education and degrees.

This role is critical in maintaining functionality as it relates to all business affairs and all division endeavors. This area includes: Academic Affairs, Curriculum, UME, GME, Faculty Development & Affairs, Admissions, Student Affairs, Community Health Policy/Outreach, Wellness/Integrative Medicine, and Performance/Learning.

Coordination includes: Providing support to division executives, faculty, staff, groups and committees; Managing business operations (purchasing, payables, travel, supplies, budget monitoring); Managing facilities; Managing employee IT and HR related needs; Supervising (or co-supervising) classified staff; Executing special projects, research and reports; Assisting/coordinating meetings and events; Working with position recruitment; Supporting initiatives and degree/program development.

In addition, this role serves as the executive assistant to the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs and Education, along with other leadership positions within the division. This person is the main liaison for the entire unit and is the "go-to" individual for daily operations and collaborates with the Dean’s Office on a regular basis. Furthermore, this role is asked to coordinate initiatives related to school/degree mission and goals that are assigned to, and managed, by the division.

Finally, this role has accountability to uphold federal, state, system and school policy and procedures; to work with executives to create, assess, modify and roll out daily operational policies and procedures within the division, and to plan/execute a management role that precepts and/or responds to problems, issues, new ventures, and ongoing development as needed by administrators.

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years related professional experience, with 2 of those containing related supervisory experience. Master’s degree preferred.

The individual in this position must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) to work with a wide variety of audiences and have a demonstrated ability to use considerable judgment while exercising discretion in handling complex and confidential matters. This role must be able to operate independently a majority of the time with self-motivation and management. This individual must have a thorough understanding of higher education organizational structure and its policies and procedures.

In addition, the individual must have the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and demands, projects, programming requirements, meetings, events, and business practices. The individual must have impeccable attention to detail, and an ability to see the big picture (a thorough understanding of the mission and goals over the short-term and long-term life of the School.)

Strong computer skills are essential for this position (PC required; Apple encouraged). In addition, this role must know how to build, develop and manage support teams, creating a cohesive and service-focused clerical staff while upholding the values of the UNLV School of Medicine.
