Instructional Designer I
St. Edward's University

The Instructional Designer works directly with faculty, staff, and students and collaborates with instructional technology team members to develop and implement technology-enhanced learning at the university, including online, hybrid, blended, flipped, and other digital pedagogies in pursuit of the university's educational mission. This position supports the development of technology-based instructional and research practices that empower St. Edward's University faculty to innovate in teaching, learning, and research, as well as facilitating effective technology-enhanced learning that incorporates sound instructional design principles.

Designs and develops engaging interactive online courses by drawing on a strong working knowledge of instructional design theories, methodologies, and best practices.
Creates online and digital materials for online, hybrid, and web-enhanced courses.
Provides consultation and training to faculty individually and in large and small groups; makes recommendations appropriate to technology-enhanced learning, including online, hybrid, blended, flipped, and other digital pedagogies.
Collaborates with faculty and team members to design, develop, and support engaging and effective instructional materials that incorporate sound instructional design principles.
Empowers faculty to learn and implement new technologies for teaching, learning, and research.
Collaborates as needed to design, develop, and deliver workshops, supporting documentation, and appropriate tools and other strategies to meet needs of faculty to develop technology-enhanced learning and research.
Actively collaborates with colleagues in Instructional Technology, across the Office of Information Technology, the Center for Teaching Excellence, and the library, as well as other university areas in campus-wide instructional and research efforts.
Continually explores new technologies and practices for potential applications to instructional problems and collaborates in projects for the introduction of new learning technologies to the St. Edward's community.
Provides exemplary customer service as part of a team providing support to faculty for technology-enhanced teaching, learning, and research.
Actively participates in the development and implementation of sound workplace practices to enhance services and facilitate communications among team members and clients.
Maintains records of consultation and support in appropriate applications and uses this data for continuous improvement.
Works individually and as part of a team to develop, support, and complete projects as assigned.
Provides direct supervision to student workers.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree required.
Advanced training in Instructional Technology or related field preferred.
One to two years' experience in the design and development of technology-based instructional materials required.
Experience working with blended and online courses preferred.
Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas or Blackboard required.
Knowledge of learning theories and principles applicable to online learning required.
Experience in the creation and integration of audio, video, and multimedia components in educational projects preferred.
Ability to develop and manage instructional technology projects to produce high quality materials.
Ability to manage and meet deadlines using area processes to meet quality standards.
Ability to continually research, adapt, and learn new technology tools.
Must have excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Ability to work effectively within a diverse community.
Ability to comply with workplace guidelines and attendance requirements.
Must be able to work occasional nights & weekends.
Successful completion of an employment and/or criminal history background check required.
